Here’s my video documenting the 2023 Detroit Cantastoria festival. This big group art show had me pulling from all of my skills, writing, acting, painting and documenting. This video flips betwen fly-on-the-wall clips during the construction and open workshops as well as from the two evenings of performances. This is truly a you-had-to-be-there medium, but I hope that my phone clips give an idea of the weekend. I’ll be returning to join in for 2024, too…

Gary Schwartz directed a two-day workshop to produce this short frame-by-frame animation. I joined in the class and also made the music (and Jeff Jimison voices the late Senator Thomas Palmer.

Gary Schwartz and his pupils at the Flint Institute School of Art animate this brief expression of anguish at the outset of the war in Ukraine. A large Soviet 35mm anamorphic projection lens was adapted for the project. My sound design samples The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus, from a 1960s Detroit recording. Animation by Benjamin Strom, Brianna Rose Haywood and Noah Hansz.

In the spirit of DIY 1990s zine culture and styled after the incredible WFMU, WAITING FOR LUNCH RADIO ZINE is a cornucopia of outsider art. Dozens of episodes were created between 2020 and 2022, going out not only online via Mixcloud but also over real-life terrestrial FM radio in the Detroit metroplex, appearing on WAHS 89.5FM Auburn Hills, WPHS 89.1FM Warren and WFCB-LP 100.7FM Ferndale.

This game show for artists can’t be lost. Seven quick episodes created concurrently with sister show Waiting For Lunch Radio Zine. This mini-podcast was also featured on “Incubator” as part of The Planet Ant Podcast Network.

Episodes feature puppet artist Lindsay McCaw, writer Amanda Nazario, musician Swivs, illustrator Bekki Doodles, voice actor Tim Rath, animator Gary Schwartz, and visual artist Vagner Whitehead. Jeff Jimison created original sound design for our MANDATORY OBSTACLE COURSE.

Iztac, the snow leopard at the Mexico City zoo, plans his escape in the midst of his trapeze act. DJ Stashu longs for a blue-collar lover. Mitch gets trapped in a time vortex, and Detroit looks forward optimistically amidst chaos. Quirky original music and animation soundtracks round out this new six-track collection.

As part of my ongoing collaboration with Academy Award nominated animator Gary Schwartz, I recently created two minutes of “walking” sound design for a student workshop he taught in Armenia. The high-school-aged students were charged with creating walk cycle animations to the changing scenes set up by the sound design.

I’m making an annual video out of clips from my life for every year starting in 2005.

I collaborated on “In The Bag,” a track on this magnificent Psilodump album. I contributed numerous samples, a little bit of music, and brough in violinist Scott Murphy for a solo, and Psilodump ran off with those elements and made something amazing.

I created the sound design for this film first, and Gary animated to it.

Rare live recordings of Zelda and the Unibrows music, with rock band, orchestra and chorus. These come from live performances transmitted via Skype to European galleries as part of Lado Darakhvelidze’s Museum TV Station project.

Laughageddon is a six-part original audio miniseries from Erie Canal Theatre. This retro noir comedy follows a failed stand-up comedian in a fictitious 1980s New York as he’s offered incredible career opportunities at an incredible cost. There are also lots of really funny fake commercials throughout.

We remade this classic radio thriller with new cast, sounds and music. Not your typical Fourble Board story. The original version was created for the show “Quiet, Please.”

The most fun undiscovered audio comedy. “Switchboard Infinity” is a sci-fi serial following Malcom and Thalia through the solar system as they battle the evil corporation Wizbit. Made within orbit of Detroit’s Planet Ant Theatre improv community, with incredible sound design and original music. First aired as part of the show “Dance With Me, Stanley” on WFMU.

“When you die, you become a ghost, and you get to haunt people, and make parts of the room too cold for no reason. ”This EP explores death from the atheist, Catholic, and Buddhist perspective and shifts in mood from light to scary and back again.

This 2012 collaboration with the Tesla Orchestra’s “Open Spark Project” is a presentation of original Zelda and the Unibrows music as performed with bolts of electricity on musical Tesla coils. Paul Szewczyk composed the music – a tribute to Detroit’s elevated rail system, The People Mover – Lisa Raschiatore performed clarinet overdubs, and I arranged and engineered. We also produced this video out of the footage.

We all know that Santa lives forever, and that means he’ll still be around at the end of the Universe itself.

This 2010 short film uses the 2007 album of the same name as score. A live-action cartoon, a silent film, a dumb play about Zelda and the Unibrows.

In 2008 I was crew for production and postproduction on this indie dark comedy featuring Ron Perlman and Joey Pantoliano. The experience was a film school unto itself and influenced my future production style. The film won best screenplay at the San Diego film festival in 2009.

A six-episode experiment with the new-fangled “pod-cast” format. Includes all kinds of goodness unavailable elsewhere including a great ambient piece called “Stretchy Penis,” an hour-long takeover of WPHS, and guest appearances from collaborators.

An EP I recorded for Andy Baillargeon, hot on the heels of finishing the “Knowing What Birds Know” full-length. This album seems to be unavailable.

The first of two releases I recorded for my friend Andrew J. Baillargeon. I play a few very minimal accordion parts on a few tracks, and Samuel Seed engineered a few, too.

The Mangler devours future criminals as babies, preventing their lives of crime. Join this heroic figure and his Uncle, Dr. Horatio, on a twisted journey of craven insanity. This one-season serial produced by Waiting For Lunch Radio Theatre reveals some of the foundation under Erie Canal Theatre’s formation a decade later.
