Cantastoria is the Italian word for an ancient form of street theater where a narrator sings or tells a story while gesturing to painted banners. The Detroit Cantastoria Fest is an evening of short performances in the cantastoria tradition made by local artists and some special guests from afar. We also feature "crankie" shows, a related form where a story is told using a scrolling picture which is displayed using a crank mechanism. Live music! Live theater! Stories from far away and right down the street! Come enjoy a wild, woolly and wonderful night of cantastoria and crankie shows.

Carny Obscura
NEW SOUND DESIGN! I created the soundtrack for a new forty-second animation by filmmaker Gary Schwartz, which is live on YouTube and will premiere in-real-life in October! The sounds for this film include clips from tapes I recorded as a child, field recordings of real locations including Cedar Point and Dutch barrel organs, a few catalogue sounds and a bunch of custom sounds created at home for this short. It’s amazing how many useful sounds a simple bicycle can make.
’Carny Obscura’ will premiere at Carrington Art in Sandusky, Ohio. The exhibition, DARK CARNIVAL' will open Friday, October 16th, coinciding with the 150th Anniversary of Cedar Point. Time an exhibit duration TBA, please check the gallery site for accurate details.

Make Your Own Zine
Join the Ferndale library in this zine-making class for kids, at which I will show-and-tell about my personal zine collection, my experience making my own zine for two years, and assist in Mr. Everett’s workshop in which you’ll get to make your own zine. (A zine is a self-published magazine.)
WDET StoryMakers Meetup
Join me at Detroit’s Senate Theatre for a documentarian “open mic night,” at which I’ll be screening and discussing my 2019 Retrospective film. WFMU’s Stashu, host of “Dance With Me, Stanley,” will also be presenting a radio interview. This is a really fun venue and I can’t wait to meet you there. Hopefully there won’t be a global pandemic to ruin the evening!
OK, you’re on to me. I created this invite after the event was over in order to find out how the Squarespace event page works. You found me out. Oh, well. Here’s a photo of me on stage at the event, as well as the five-minute video I screened!
The “real” version of this film is 10 minutes, but here it is in 5, edited to suit the evening.
