At Mexico City’s Parque Zoologico de Chapultepec, Iztac, a snow leopard, swings from a trapeze while sleeping - dreaming!
Iztac is dreaming of simple worlds with simple rules, stretched in sequence across infinite universes. Everyone has an idea about how things should be, and these are the realms he explores each night, silently padding past the hedges at midnight, unnoticed by the citizens of the world of your Aunt’s politics, the world of your politics, and the world of no politics. These worlds are frightening, but Iztak doesn’t mind. He knows he’ll wake up in the zoo soon. There, he can see how complex the world is on its own. Although he is a prisoner, he knows no one can hurt him. He wonders what the people looking at him are thinking.
He will escape.
